COYOTE
SPIRIT
Journey to Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
This years adventure is cancelled
due to unforeseen circumstances. We will be running the Coyote Spirit Journey
every 2 years, starting from next year, 2009.
Adventure to the heart
of Vancouver Island. Immerse yourself in breathtaking scenery.
Explore practises and understanding of traditional indigenous
cultures. Embark on an exploration of Wolf River and Rainbow Lake
in open canoes. Experience the culmination of this adventure with
your Vision Quest in the Canadian wilderness.
Our intention: To provide the conditions, orientation
and guided activities on a journey of self discovery and self exploration.
Week 1:
Our journey starts in the heart of Vancouver Island in the Comox
Valley. In the first week we emmerse ourselves in 'The Magic of Mentoring'
with Wes Gietz, naturalist, mentor, teacher and founder of 'Windwalker'.
This week includes teachings of the Natural Learning Cycle and the
techniques of Coyote Mentoring. Based on traditional indigenous practices
and understanding from cultures around the world, these teachings
have been brought together by Wilderness Awareness School in Washington
State.
'The
Magic of Mentoring' looks
at the human journey and applies various techniques and tools to increase
and expand our ability to use our senses and become acutely aware of the
world around us. Wes has studied with Tom Brown,Jr., well known tracker and
naturalist from America.
We will be staying on a beautiful 10 acre plot of land in comfortable,
simple guesthouse accommodation. Nearby, the Puntledge River offers delightful
swimming and early morning dips within 15 minutes walk.
Week 2:

This
week is an exciting activity-led adventure. Mount Beecher is a day hike
there and back again with breathtaking views of Strathcona Provincial
Park and the coastal mountains of British Columbia's mainland seen
in the distance across Georgia Strait.
We will embark on a 3 day, 2 night canoe trip in the Buttle Lake area
of Strathcona Provincial Park. Guided by an experienced local canoe guide,
we will experience a 26km exploration of Wolf River, Titus and Rainbow
Lakes in 2-3 man Canadian canoes. We will camp on the shoreline under
the stars. Instruction and full safety briefing will be given before
we leave shore.
Week 3:
The last week is the Vision Quest. This is the culmination
of our experiences so far with 'Coyote Spirit'
The
Vision Quest is one of the oldest tools used by tribal people to seek
direction for life. If you feel that you are at a crossroads in your
life or if you have questions about the intent and purpose for your life,
then you may benefit from a Vision Quest. What is my life purpose? What
is my gift? How can I manifest my special talents? What are my special
talents? What am I supposed to be bringing to the world to make it better?
Since the beginning of this cycle of time, humanity has returned to
nature to connect with spirit and to seek answers.
Under the guidance of a Medicine Person, the seeker is sent to a remote
location to fast and pray for 3-4 days. There is something about being
alone in the wilderness that brings us closer, makes us more aware of
our connection to a creational source. It is a period of solitude in
which we seek an inner revelation - a vision - which grants profound
meaning and direction to our life. The result of this activity is a fuller
understanding of your place or pathway in the world.
Our
Vision Quest will be under the guidance of Ernie 'Deer Heart' MacAulay.
Deer Heart was an apprentice of the well respected Chippewa Spiritual
Medicine Elder, Sun Bear, as well as the M'ik maq Medicine Man, Noel
"Spirit Talker" Knockwood.
Deer Heart also rounded out his Vision Quest teachings at the School
of Lost Borders, which is devoted to teaching how to be a Vision Quest
Guide in today's society. This School was founded by Stephen Foster and
Meredith Little, who co-authored "The Book of the Vision Quest".
We will come together at the end to re-integrate our experiences and
celebrate!
